Family
has always been Joe Kiefer’s top priority.
Kiefer and his wife JoAnn have a full house with
their four kids, Joe, John, Ryan, and Ashley. He
has dedicated his life to his family. Kiefer stays
involved in his children’s lives by coaching
youth baseball, soccer, and basketball. Kiefer and
his family play an active role in their church and
have taken part in the Christian Family Movement.
He carries this commitment and passion into his
work of making Evansville a better place to raise
a family. Joe Kiefer plays a huge part in helping
better his community by participating in United
Neighborhoods of Evansville (Government Affairs
Committee), YMCA (Partner with Youth), Public Education
Foundation Board, SWIRCA Foundation Board Youth
Resources of SW Indiana, and Transportation Committee
of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. He has
also served on the Finance Committee, Public Works
Committee, ASD Committee Salary Administration Committee,
Animal Control Board, and Information Technology.
Accomplishments
•
Worked with INDOT on commitment to convert Lloyd
Avenue to an Expressway from Fulton Avenue to the
University of Southern Indiana
• Completion
of construction of Lloyd Expressway at Pigeon Creek.
• Worked with
INDOT on commitment to put in interchange at U.S.
41, Burkhardt Road.
• Voted each
year to extend Homestead Tax Credit
• Worked with
administration in getting zoo accreditation.
• Voted against
commercial development at the State Hospital.
• Voted to update
police squad car fleet with new vehicles.
• Voted to increase
sidewalk and street paving budget.
• Voted against
Super Target development at Lloyd and Burkhardt.
• Worked for
more efficient local government by supporting privatization
where appropriate.
• Voted to support
the expansion of our tax base by supporting Inner-City
Development along Walnut Street, industrial expansion
through targeted tax relief and appropriate reasoning,
and continuous commitment to economic development.

Voted to support Housing Trust Fund to improve condition
of Evansville housing.
•
Worked to allow the use of credit cards at public
golf courses.
• Introduced
and voted to pass ordinance to eliminate building
permit requirements for tool sheds and yard barns
smaller than 10 x 15.
•
Introduced and voted to audio stream on the Internet
all city council meetings and government meetings
held in the city council chambers.
Long-term
Goals:
•
Studying combining local government and looking for ways to streamline government, eliminate waste, and making government more efficient and responsive.
• "Citistat" a government accountability program that helps make local government more responsive, efficient, and less costly. Citistat can enhance services. It is a proven program being used in many cities throughout the United States.
