Long Term Goals & Accomplishments

Creating Jobs and Economic Growth
Continues to push and work for I-69. Works closely with I-69 proponents, the governor, and the local chamber of commerce.
Working with businesses to grow and bring jobs to Evansville.
Making Evansville a magnet for high tech industry.
 

Improving Roads and Traffic
Continues to work with INDOT to eliminate lights off the Lloyd Expressway. Newest plans call for removing lights on the Lloyd at US Hwy 41 and at Fulton Avenue within the next few years. Long term plans call to eliminate them all the way from Hwy 41 to the University of Southern Indiana.
Working with transportation planners to pave streets & improve traffic flow.
Worked successfully with the Public Works dept. to improve snow removal plan and its implementation.
Worked with INDOT on commitment to put in interchange at U.S. 41 and Fulton Ave.
Voted for program to build new sidewalks in city neighborhoods. Voted to improve city streets.
 

Fighting for Lower Taxes
Sponsored Homestead Tax Exemption resolution for Evansville Residents.
Voted each year to extend Homestead Tax Credit.
Working to make government more efficient.
Voted to support the expansion of our tax base with the use of smart development and appropriate rezonings.
 

Making Government more Accountable and Responsive
Worked in a bi-partisan fashion to accomplish getting city council meetings televised on public television.
Pushing to implement one call number for complaints and concerns - 311.
Pushing to implement Citistat - government accountability program. Joe has worked with the city administration to begin implementing a similar program called CityView.
Studying combining local government and looking for ways to streamline & make it more efficient and responsive. Recent efforts include working with the city administration in implementing CityView.
Joe supports equitable pay for police officers, firefighters and city workers.
Voted to update police squad car fleet with new vehicles and other equipment, fire safety equipment and improved vehicles.
Worked for more efficient local government by supporting privatization where appropriate.
 

Investing in our Youth and Families
Striving to improve quality of life in Evansville by improving our parks & recreation, job growth, public safety, and quality schools.
Work closely with members of the EVSC and its school board. Joe also is a supporter of USI, U of E, and Ivy Tech along with other public and private schools.
Working to keep young people in Evansville by help create job opportunities and improving quality of life issues important to young people.
Voted to support Housing Trust Fund to improve condition of Evansville housing.
Regularly attends the Mayor's Town Hall meetings to listen to constituents and their concerns.
